Rockelle Henderson is both a bookworm and business woman. Two years ago, she channeled these qualities to create the Bluffton Book Festival, now a popular annual event. A Lowcountry resident since 2006, Henderson drew on experience gained during her 20-year career in New York City’s publishing industry and called on professional contacts honed during her stints at Random House, Penguin, HarperCollins and Disney/Hyperion. Her three-day literary festival in Old Town Bluffton brings together local and national literary talent to raise awareness and funds for two charities—The Literacy Center of Bluffton and the Book Industry Charitable Foundation. This year’s festival dates are Nov. 15-17, and more than 50 well-known writers and local authors will participate to promote their work, meet fans and participate in workshops. From the festival’s Pat Conroy-inspired lecture series to the VIP evening event “Books, Bourbon and Brew,” the Bluffton Book Festival offers something fun for everyone who loves to read.
